MET GALA 19' BABY

On Monday, May 6th, one of the most prestigious events to a celebrity took place at the steps of the Met building in New York on the upper East side.  The famous of the famous shakers up in the craziest bit expensive and indented outfits that they ever would. Though you have to be invited in the first place, if you choose to go you have to pay a good “thou” of a fee just to get your picture taken. The Met Gala 2019, as always, took the world of social media, news castings, and every gossip reporting tv show by storm.
In all honesty, I don't even know what exactly happens at the Met Gala. I just love scrolling through their official Instagram and seeing all of my favorite celebrity's outfits. Rate this one, shame that one. This particular event has truly no real significance or points if the only thing people remember about it or even care about is just the weird outfits.
After more research, I found out that the Met Gala is actually an annual fundraising gala that marks the opening of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit. Every year, there is a new theme. So if this really was all about fundraising why is it so focused on the clothes? The media pinpoints the outfits because the celebrities are just trying to be noticeable, but also fit the theme to be conscious of the gala itself.
Just the other day prior to the Met Gala, I was looking through Instagram Stories and posts where my friends could post pictures and such, and all I saw was snapshots, polls, and commentary on "Who wore it best?" or a couple of heart-eyes emojis. I just believe that it is weird that this is a fundraising charity event for a museum, but media turns it into a competition of outgoing and to be completely honest-just weird outfits. This is just one of the many examples of the true effects of different types of media today.
