Models + Media

Picture a model in your mind. Is she skinny? Is she insanely beautiful? Is her body an exact replica of an hourglass? These almost inhumane beings are the impulse of media today, for their influence is increasingly heavy and dangerously impactful. Almost every single brand needs a face and logo to fufill their presentation in the product or idea, and models are completing these needs. This results in an expectation that women in our society feel they need to uphold. Are these expectations necessary and intended?
Of course, there is the conclusion that women today are "too insecure" or "too emotionally sensitive ", but I believe that this is all apart of media and how it affects society today. Media gives us the opportunity to compare ourselves and to set a standard that is impossible to reach, but it all relates back to marketing.  Media companies want a pretty face that will sell, it's that simple. These pretty faces, though are causing women to try and uphold this the same way. We think that if we look that perfect an have that body or that eye color, we will "get the guy" be considered the same as today's models are. It's this locked mindset that comes from media and advertisement that is screwing over human beings. And to think that it all starts by something we see online, in the news, or in a commercial.

  1. I do very much agree that media gives us the opportunity to compare ourselves at much higher rates than in the past. People think today everyone is overly sensitive. Although I think everyone is just more aware and less afraid of saying what makes them uncomfortable. We see a lot of social media from influencers or instagram models that it is better to look this way or act this way because more people will love your or somehow your life will be better if you do. Although this is not true because we do not have to be the same or meet the standards that society has placed on us.
